William (Bill) Chatman, 84, formerly of Johnson City and Kingsport passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013 in the Bethesda Health Care Center of Cookeville, TN. He was a native of Johnson City and a son of the late James Frank and Mary Carder Chatman. He was a U.S Army veteran having served 26 years of service with 17 years in the Army National Guard. Mr. Chatman was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Church Hill, TN. Survivors include his wife, Mitzi Thornburg Chatman of Cookeville; two sons, Timothy E. Chatman and wife, Julia of Kingsport and William S. Chatman and wife, Lori Ann of Cookeville; two daughters, Christy Jo Chatman Rakestraw and husband, Chris of Rogersville and Amy Carol Chatman Crawford and husband, Chris of Spring Hill, TN; nine grandchildren, Candace and Leah Chatman, Taylor, Josie, Emily, Malory and Russell Chatman and Caleb and Aubrie Crawford; three step-grandchildren, Veronica, K.M. and Josh Rakestraw; three sisters, Carolyn Culberson of Chattanooga, Linda Tony of Jonesborough and Kathryn Dye of Gastonia, NC; two brothers, J.R. Chatman of Johnson City and Tommy Chatman of Erwin; A special aunt, Ruby Carder of Johnson City; also numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Chatman will be conducted at 7:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2013 in the Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue with the Rev. J.W. Depew officiating. Music will be provided by Rev. Jim Chatman. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services with Military Honors provided by the Boone Dam VFW Honor Guard Detail will be held 10:00 AM Monday, November 11, 2013 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery.
