Walter DeLee (Walt) Baxley, 64, 437 Buttermilk Road, Gray passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012 in the Gray Health Care Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a son of the late James Raymond Baxley and Dula Bryant Hensley. Mr. Baxley had worked for many years in the telecommunications division of Sprint and Century Link. He was a member of the Believers United Ministries of Johnson City. Walt was � Cherokee Indian and was very proud of that part of his heritage. He never served in the military but was extremely proud to be an American. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ron Moore; an aunt and uncle, Naomi and John Morgan. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Sue Conner Baxley; a daughter, Tammy Michelle Baxley Walters and son-in-law, Charles Walters of NC; a son Michael Delee Baxley and daughter-in-law, Beth Baxley of Gray; five grandchildren, Racheal Elizabeth Orton, John Michael Christopher Niles, Abigail Karson Baxley, Stacy Danielle Brookshire and Rylee Ford Brookshire; an uncle, J.C. Bryant of Erwin; five nephews and many special friends. Funeral services for Mr. Baxley will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor Jo Greene officiating. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Michael Baxley, Danny Ray, Chucky Hammonds, David Hammonds, Charles Walters and Robert Willis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the service hour. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Believers United Ministries, 121 Webb Court, Jonesborough, TN 37659. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful health care professionals in the Tri-Cities that helped care for Walt during his illness.
