Tony Ray Canter, 45, 175-A Patton May Road, Telford passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a son of Harvey and Patricia Leach Canter of Telford. Mr. Canter was a member since childhood of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church in Elizabethton. He was a retired painter and was a huge NASCAR and Tennessee Vols fan. Mr. Canter also loved fishing and loved his family. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Goldie Leach. Survivors in addition to his parents include two brothers, Phillip Canter and his wife, Rachel and Westley Canter and his wife, Julie; his paternal grandparents, Melvin and Ellen Canter of Elizabethton; aunts and uncles, Bob, Judy, Brenda, Terry, Shirley and Karen; nieces and nephews, Manuella, Harvey Wayne, Deborah, Westley Jr. and Mercedes; also several great nieces and nephews and a large extended family. Funeral services for Tony will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, February 7, 2013 in the Woodall-Anderson and Dugger Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5:00 PM until the service hour and Wednesday through Friday at the home of his brother, Westley, 302 Greenpond Road, Johnson City. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 8, 2013 in the Maple Lawn Cemetery, Jonesborough. Active pallbearers will be Dean Leach, Scott Pierson, Jon Michael Lukinoff, James Tipton, Stacey Whitaker and Jeffery Crowe. Honorary pallbearers will be Van Dugger and Matthew Leach. Everyone attending the graveside service is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 PM. The family is asking that any flowers sent be orange and white in honor of Tony's love for the Vols. They also suggest that anyone attending the service please wear their Tennessee orange and white casual attire. For those who prefer in lieu of flowers you may make a memorial contribution in memory of Tony to Julie Canter, 302 Greenpond Road, Johnson City, TN 37604. The family would like to give special thanks to Josh and Hylan at the Johnson City Medical Center, ICU 2800 unit for their special care they provided Tony.
