Thelma Jean Owens

Mrs. Thelma Jean Owens, 79 passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 in Johnson City. She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was the daughter of the late William Conner and Josie Conner Parsons. Mrs. Owens was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Johnson City where she had served as the Singles Group Coordinator. She was retired and was loved by everyone who knew her. Mrs. Owens never met a person that she didn't like. She will truly be missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Owens and a brother, Leroy Parsons. Survivors include two sons, Roy L. Owens and his wife, Brenda of Unicoi and William "Sparky" Owens and his wife, Della of Gray; four grandchildren, Tina Owens, Jonathan Owens, Carrie Jo Stephens and husband, John and Joshua Owens all of Johnson City; four great-grandchildren, Emma Owens, Keyla Hensdill, Abigail Stephens and Kingston Owens; a very special sister-in-law, Linda Parsons; two special nephews, Mark and Mike Parsons; a special niece, Joann Parsons; very special cousins, Gladys Hughes and husband, Charles and Betty Sanom of Washington; a very dear and special friend, Gwendolyn Creek of Johnson City; also a host of friends and church family, whom she loved dearly. Funeral services for Mrs. Owens will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, September 18, 2014 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 211 Mayflower Road, Johnson City, TN 37601 with Bishop Warren Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 19, 2014 in the Liberty Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.
