Rev. Ted Hilton

When I've gone the last mile of the way, I will rest at the close of the day, for I know there's joy that awaits me, when I've gone the last mile of the way. Rev. Ted Hilton, 84, 1230 Meadowview Avenue, Johnson City passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011 in the NHC HealthCare. He was a native of Unicoi County but had lived most of his life in Johnson City. Rev. Hilton was a son of the late Samuel and Bertha France Hilton. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served his country in the U.S. Army. Rev. Hilton attended the Cherokee Independent Freewill Baptist Church, and had pastored Refuge Freewill Baptist Church in Chuckey for 20 years and various other churches in the area.. He loved his church and his family very much and loved to help people in need and sitting with the sick and dying. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, William H. Hilton, Charles Arthur Hilton, Brad Hilton Jr., Clyde H. Hilton and Albert G. Hilton. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann Lewis Hilton; two daughters, Barbara Carver and her husband, Benny of Johnson City and Reda Jones and her husband, Rick of Bluff City; a son, Johnny Hilton and his wife, Christy of Johnson City; two granddaughters, Sarahann Montgomery and her husband, Michael and Kayla Hilton; three great-grandchildren, Christian, Brayden and Brooklyn Montgomery; three step-grandchildren, Amanda Jones, Angela and Robby Carver; a brother, J.D. Hilton and his wife, Belva of California; special friend, Jim Smith; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Rev. Hilton will be conducted at 7:00 PM Monday, December 26, 2011 in the East Chapel of the Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with the Rev. Charlie McKamey, Rev. David Castle, Rev. Donnie Harris and Rev. David Montgomery officiating. Music will be provided by Donnie and Sandy Harris and Jewell Amos and Donna. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5:00 PM until the service time and other times at the residence. Graveside services with Military Honors provided by the Boone Dam VFW Honor Guard will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Active pallbearers will be Richard Hilton, Earl Bailey, James Blevins, Rick Jones, Jim Smith, Benny Carver and Michael Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers Eddie McAmis, Robert Davis, Ed Davis, Ross Hughes, Danny Hughes, Cecil Garland, Kenneth Snowden and Clay Johnson.. Everyone attending this service is asked to meet at the funeral home Tuesday by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
