Mr. Sherman C. McInturff, 83, of 1306 Patrick Drive, Johnson City went home to be with the Lord Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a son of the late Henry and Alice Hyatt McInturff. Mr. McInturff had retired from the City of Johnson City where he had worked as a machine and equipment operator. He also had worked for Pepsi-Cola as a truck driver. Mr. McInturff was a long time member of the Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church where he had served as trustee, usher and had driven the van for the seniors. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country during the Korean War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Puckett McInturff in 2008; two sisters, Marie Barnett and Helen Cross; three brothers, Jay, Bob and Thurman McInturff; two brothers-in-law, Jack Neal and Jack Barnett. Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Hinkle and her friend, Tim Everhart of Gray; a son, Jimmy McInturff and his wife, Norma, Johnson City; four sisters, Florence Willis and husband, Raymond of Johnson City, Ann Neal, Piney Flats, Shirley Elliott and her husband, Carl, Johnson City and Jane Story and her husband, Larry of Jonesborough; four brothers, Jerry McInturff, Gerald McInturff and his wife, Pauline, Landon McInturff and his wife, Brenda all of Jonesborough and Ray McInturff of Bristol; a brother-in-law, Bobby Cross, Johnson City; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn McInturff and Betty McInturff both of Johnson City; a granddaughter, Angela McInturff, Johnson City; three grandsons, Travis McInturff and friend, Sarah Hensley, Josh Hinkle and friend, Brooke Wilson and Jason Hinkle; three great-grandchildren, Layne Ray, Keenan McInturff and Clinton Tyler Hensley; special friend, Bobby Keller; special friend and caregiver, Missy Berry; many nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. McInturff will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in the Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Crowe officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Tim Everhart, Bill Campbell, Josh and Jason Hinkle and Billy Barnett. Honorary pallbearers will be the trustees and deacons of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Everyone attending this service is asked to meet at the church by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
