Sharon Blackburn Barnett

Sharon Blackburn Barnett, 74, Jonesborough passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at her residence with her family at her side. She was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County. Sharon was a daughter of the late Edwin Spencer Blackburn and Martha Odell Blackburn. She was retired from East Tennessee State University where she had worked for over 30 years. Sharon was a lifetime member of East Pine Grove Park United Methodist Church of Johnson City where she had served as church pianist for many years and also volunteered countless hours to the church. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Painter. Survivors include her husband, David A. Barnett of the home; two daughters, Patti Greer and husband, John of Piney Flats and Carol Burkett of Orlando, Florida; a brother, Nelson Blackburn and wife, Shirley of Johnson City; one niece, one nephew and several cousins. Graveside services for Sharon will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, September, 30, 2017 in the Washington County Memory Gardens with Reverend Paul Longmire officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to East Pine Grove Park United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1992, Johnson City, TN 37601.
