Sana Mae “Sally” Crouch Russell, 81, of Gray stepped into Heaven to be with her Savior and family, Friday, July 27, 2018 at the home of her son, Jimmy and Pat Russell, where she had made her home for the past eight years. She was a daughter of the late Sanford and Ruth Fitzgerald Crouch. Sally was a very special lady and truly had a Servant’s heart. She was always helping someone in need or preparing them a meal or giving them a place to live. Sally worked at the VA Hospital in the dietary department twenty plus years before retirement. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Russell; her step-mother, Lela Crouch; three brothers, Huvil, Raymond (Hal) and Gene Crouch; a sister, Iva Crouch Whaley; two grandchildren, Ronnie Lee Russell and Tina Walker Jones; a step-son, Charles Russell and a step-daughter, Patsy Walker. Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Pat Russell; a grandson, Travis Russell and his wife, Lori and their children, Robby Russell and Abby Baxley who were the loves of her life; four step-daughters, Lowanda Constable, Bobbie Hollifield, Shirley Dye and Imogene Crouch; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also grieving at this time is her constant companion, her fur baby and shadow, Bacon. “Little Baby Dog Bacon’, as Sally called her, stayed right by her side for the past three weeks and up to the end. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 6:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 30, 2018 in the Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 7:00 PM with Mr. Roy Tucker and Pastor Larry Dugger officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the New Life Tabernacle Youth Fund, 137 Saylor Road, Gray, TN 37615. A special thanks to Debbie Taylor, Thelma Pate and Linda Squiers her granddaughters who she called “her girls”. Without their love and help we would not have been able to keep Sally at home with us.
