Mrs. Ruth Whitson Arnett, 96, 255 Riverview Drive, Johnson City went home to be the Lord, Tuesday, October 1, 2013 in the Lakeview Health Care Center. She was a native of Spruce Pine, NC and had lived in Johnson City for most of her life. Mrs. Arnett was a daughter of the late William and Myrtle Calhoun Whitson. She had worked for the V.A. Hospital and Hill's Department Store before retirement. Mrs. Arnett was a longtime member of the Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Paul Arnett in 1969; six brothers, Ike, G.D., Ralph, Billy, George and Jackie Whitson; three sisters, Ruby Matthews, Pearl Campbell and Lena Matthews. Survivors include three daughters, Helen Crowe and husband, Paul, Peggy Campbell-Buck and husband, Earnest and Bobbie Owens and friend, David Potter all of Johnson City; a brother, James Whitson of Jonesborough; eleven grandchildren, Robert Crowe, Dinah Crowe, Sonja Ellis, Lora Lowe, Shay Warnert, Johnny Scott, Chris Owens, Stacy Owens, Robin Malobabich, Vickie Fields and Tina Trent; 24 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday, October 4, 2013 in the Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church, 1004 E. Lakeview Drive, Johnson City with the Rev. Paul Crowe and Rev. Bob Davis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Friday from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 5, 2013 from the Roselawn Memory Gardens.
