Robert "Bob" Eugene McClure Sr., 73 of Johnson City passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016 at NHC Health Care Center after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Washington County and was a son of the late Raymond H. and Naomi Byer McClure. Bob was a high school graduate of Boones Creek High School class of 1962. He was a life long member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church and attended Jonesborough Church of God. Bob coached the "Big Orange" football team for several years. He also played football, softball and enjoyed camping and spending time with his grandchildren. Bob rode with the GWRRA chapter for several years. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force as a fuel specialist. Bob was in basic training in Amarillo, Texas and served in Vietnam. He was also stationed at Moody's AFB in Valdosta, GA. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lynn and Darrell McClure; a sister, Patsy Ann Brown and by Peggy Ruth Day the loving mother of his three surviving children, James Robert "Rocky" McClure of Kingsport, Tina Ruth Angel of Gray and Robert Eugene "B.J." McClure Jr. of the home. Also surviving is his loving wife of 33 years, Martha Bishop McClure; son, Chad Michael Jarrett of Hampton; a daughter, Prescela McClure of Bristol; twenty one grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ruth Campbell and husband, Al of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive; special nephews, Darrell Wayne Sells, Livingston, TX; David Fred Sells, Johnson City. Bob loved his little 4 legged protector and companion "Choco". The funeral service for Mr. McClure will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, April 24, 2016 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Ave., with Mr. David Giles officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:45 AM at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Appalachian Funeral Home at 10:15 AM Monday to travel in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Rauna Lynn Sue Simpson fund at First Tennessee Bank. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.wadugger.com.
