Robert Lee Cross, 94, Johnson City passed away Friday, July 17, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was a native of Kingsport and was the son of the late Robert Lee Cross Sr. and Mayme Hobson Cross. Mr. Cross retired from the City of Johnson City where he had worked in the Waste Water Services for over 26 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Pansy M. Burleson. Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Pauline Odom Cross; a son, Robert Lee Cross III and his wife, Ping of Johnson City; two granddaughters, Sydney and Sophia Cross of Johnson City; also two nephews, Jim and Gary Calfee. I was saddened to hear about Mr. Cross passing away. I remember fondly his sense of humor and always feeling welcome when I would visit his home many years ago. The family was blessed to have him for so many years and I am glad he had a long life. I know he will be very much missed by the family.

Pauline and Robert were part of what I must call the "wonderful years." As a teaching companion with Pauline at University School, I would visit with Robert quite often at various school functions. Robert represented those gentle qualities of Christian men of his generation. I enjoyed those encounters as Robert always greeted Kathy and me with his hand of friendship and happiness. Indeed, Pauline and their son, Robert Lee III, also had the same kind and sincere feelings as Robert Lee II did. In today's world, we surely know how important the values of this family are. Bob and I served on the board of First Christian church for many years and it was a pleasure to know and work with him. He was always dedicated to any endeavor to which he was commiterd. I counted it an honor to have called him my friend. Jim Carmichael
