Ragan Joseph Garland 38, of Johnson City went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Boone, NC and was a son of Margo Dugger Greenwell and the late Danny Curtis Garland. Ragan was a carpenter, landscaper and a flower specialist. He was also a musician and wrote songs from the heart. Ragan loved nature and all of Gods creations. He will be missed so very badly, he had a heart as big as a mountain. Ragan loved God and loved his family and loved any stranger he might meet. Heaven gained another angel. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a brother, Richie Garland his best friend, they were like twins. They sang and wrote beautiful songs together which they now are singing in Heaven. Also his maternal grandmother, Verdie Dugger and paternal grandparents, Edith and Truman Potter whom he loved with all of his heart; Survivors include his mother and step-father, Margo Dugger Greenwell and Gerry Greenwell of Gray; three children, Solomon, Alahna and Presley whom he adored with all his heart; a sister, Margo Ann; a niece, Madison Garland; an uncle, Loren Garland and wife, Loretta; cousins, Martha and Debbie Garland. Funeral services for Ragan will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, February 5, 2015 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. David Vanoy officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 6, 2015 in the Sugar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Butler. Active pallbearers will be Justin and Loren Garland, Jim Furches, Brandon Gregg, Mike Bush, Dallas and Chris Herman. Honorary pallbearer will be Leroy Simpson. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Sugar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 925 Sugar Grove Church Road, Butler, TN 37640.
