Paul Edward Hartley, 74, 2448 Sandy Drive, Johnson City passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Butler, TN but had lived in Johnson City most of his life. Mr. Hartley was a son of the late Tom and Bertha Jenkins Hartley. He was a carpenter who worked for several companies including Wayne Gouge Construction where he retired from. Mr. Hartley attended Oakland Avenue Baptist Church where he was a member of the Jerry Whitaker Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Peters; two brothers, Carl and Clyde Hartley and a step-daughter, Linda Brown. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Oliver Hartley; a daughter, Teresa Diehl and her husband, Stanley of Elizabethton; a son, Robert Hartley of Johnson City; a step-daughter, Julie Young Cole; a step-son, Roy Garland both of Johnson City; four sisters, Maude Munsey, Morristown, Mary Copas, Ruby Duboski and her husband, Raymond and Helen Odom and her husband, Gary all of Johnson City; three brothers, Dallas Hartley and his wife, Barbara of Elizabethton, Luther Hartley and his wife, Kathy and Charlie Hartley and his wife, Charlene all of Johnson City; five grandsons; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Hartley will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday, March 30, 2012 in the Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with the Rev. Roy Yelton officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service time. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 31, 2012 in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
