Monica Shoko Clark, loving wife and mother, born March 12, 1933, passed away on May 21, 2013 after a brief illness surrounded by family and friends. Born in Fukuoka, Japan, Monica became a naturalized citizen in 1955. She loved this country and most of the people she encountered in it. She and husband Allen married in 2002. She loved to travel with him and often said her time with him was the happiest in her life. Before she emigrated to the U.S. at age 18, Monica was training to become an Olympic gymnast. She carried her love of sports throughout her life, participating in every physical activity she could. She loved playing ping pong, tennis, bowled as long as she was able, and participated in the Johnson City, TN Senior Olympics. She was also a passionate Texas Holdem player and was the subject of two articles in major poker publications. She embraced life and contributed and brought happiness to everyone who had the good fortune to know her. In the United States, she helped support her family by working as a waitress. She also worked as a cook for the Buffalo Bills football team. For a time, she owned and operated the Dolly Madison Thrift Bakery in Sierra Vista, Arizona. She is survived by her husband Allen, son Don and wife Judy of Piney Flats, TN, son Tom and wife Rosie of Greenville, TN, daughter Mary of Hadley, NY, son Bill and wife Della of Saratoga, CA, son John of Okemos, MI, daughter Monica of Johnson City, TN, and brother-in-law James C. Clark of Las Vegas, NV, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services will be private, but the family asks that you keep Monica and Allen in your thoughts and prayers. The family also wishes to thank the staff at the Johnson City Medical Center for the kind and compassionate care they gave to Monica. Visitation: Private Services Services: Interment: N
