Michael L. Rush, 72, Johnson City went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 17, 2019 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Knoxville and was a son of the late Paul and Betty Grubb Rush. Mike had lived and worked in Baltimore 20 years before moving to Johnson City. He was a member of Maranatha Tabernacle of Unicoi where he had served as Deacon for many years. Mike was an avid NASCAR fan and had been an official for the TSSAA for many years. He was a U.S Army veteran having served his country during the Vietnam War.Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy Ruth Loudy Rush; three sons, Franklin “Tommy” Rush, John Michael Rush and Steven Craig Rush and wife, Crystal; two brothers, Curtis Rush and Monty “Pat” Rush; five grandchildren, Gracesyn, Jordan, Benjamin, Abigail and Haley Rush; his God child, Ruthie Griffin; also several nieces and nephews.Funeral services for Mike will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 20, 2019 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor E.L. Wheeler officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until the service hour. Graveside services will follow in the Mountain Home National Cemetery at 1:45 PM. Military honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be John, Steve and Benjamin Rush, Frank Gillman, Tommy Mitchell and Michael Turner. i did not know Micheal long but i did take care of him when he was with us a the medical center. what time i did get to know him he told me stories of his days in NASCAR in which i really connected with him. his wife was so caring and you can tell that she truly loved him. thank you Michael for the stories i will keep your family in my parries. sincerely, Logan C.
