Maynard Copas, 77, Johnson City passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 in the NHC Health Care. He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a son of the late Lancy and Amanda Johnson Copas. Maynard had worked in construction most of his life and attended McKinley Bible Church. He was a sports fanatic, loved football, basketball and loved to coach softball. Maynard enjoyed taking long walks. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, J.W., Charles, Bobby Joe, Jackie and Buster Copas; a half-brother, Haroce Copas; a sister, Nadine Miller; two half-sisters, Omi Copas and Naomi Copas. Survivors include his son, Chris Copas and Renee Ray of Johnson City; a brother, Spencer E. Copas and wife, Jo Ann of Elizabethton; a sister, Wanda Lee Carver of Jonesborough; three sisters-in-law, Linda Copas, Iva Lee Copas and Phyllis Copas; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral service for Maynard will be conducted at 2:30 PM Sunday, March 1, 2020 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Lenny Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the service hour. Interment will follow in the Cherokee Baptist Cemetery, Mayberry Road, Jonesborough. Pallbearers will be Spencer, Chris and Kenneth Copas, Willie James Maupin Jr., Alex Ray and Willie Maupin. Condolences may be made online at www.wadugger.com.
