Mary Esther Propst, formerly of 312 Hamilton Street, Johnson City entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 5, 2014 in the Appalachian Christian Village. She was the daughter of the late C.B. "Charlie" Propst and Ollie Mahoney Propst. She was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Marie Propst and an infant sister. Ms. Propst was born April 10, 1921 in Limestone, TN and moved to Johnson City in 1928. She attended West Side School, Henry Johnson Junior High School and graduated from Science Hill High School in 1940. She also attended Johnson City Business College. Ms. Propst was employed by Dosser's Department Store, Miller Brothers Lumber Company and Harris Manufacturing Company from which she retired as executive secretary in 1982 after 22 years of service. She was the last surviving charter member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in which she remained very active until declining health prevented her from attending church. Ms. Propst served as Director of Young Lutherans for many years and was active in the Esther-Mary Circle and was church secretary from 1940 to 1970. Her faith never waivered her entire life-she always trusted that the Lord would take care of her and she never doubted His love for her. She is survived by a niece, Susan Propst Burkey; a nephew, Bill Propst and wife, Brenda; two great-nieces, Michele Burkey Oxendine and husband, John and Amanda Christine Propst; a great-nephew, Jeff Burkey; a great-great-nephew, Logan Parker Oxendine; a great-great-niece, Madison Marie Oxendine; also several cousins. The funeral service for Ms. Propst will be conducted on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 201 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Steven L. Harmon officiating. The visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bill Propst, Jeff Burkey, John Oxendine, Logan Oxendine, Herman Simmons and Tim Potter.
