Mary L. Ferguson, 70, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013 in the Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas. She was a native of Johnson City and lived most of her life here until 2000 when she moved to Spring, Texas. Mrs. Ferguson was a daughter of the late Melvin Carl and Ivella Steen Austin. She retired from the Tennesse Department of Health and Human Services. Mrs. Ferguson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Ferguson Jr. in 2003 and a son-in-law, Steve Chatman. Survivors include two sons, Michael Ferguson and wife, Darlene of Spring, Texas and Daniel Ferguson and wife, Dana of Maryville, TN; two daughters, Marietta Chatman of Gray and Janet Briggs and husband, Terry of Limestone; a brother, Michael Austin of Johnson City; a sister, Linda Johnson of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Nicole Peters, Robert Chatman, Tara and Eric Ferguson; two great-grandchildren, Lilly and Dylan Ferguson; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Ferguson will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Jim Chatman and Mike Ferguson providing the eulogy. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 12:30 to 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park.
