I was deeply saddened to read of Mark’s recent passing. He and I were good friends in junior high school. In 1963, Mark’s dad took Mark and me on a very adventurous camping trip in North Carolina that included such things as getting lost for hours in a rental boat on a very foggy night out on Fontana Lake, nearly setting the woods on fire with a malfunctioning propane stove, dealing with a snake in our tent, roaring thru the mountains between Gatlingburg and Cherokee in Mr. Shumate’s Buick Riviera and catching a few fish. Soon afterwards I moved away from Johnson City but I was able to return in the summer of 1964 and spend time visiting with Mark and laughing about our adventurous camping trip of the previous summer. Although Mark and I never connected again after 1964, I will always cherish the memories of having known Mark as a true friend.
My deepest sympathies and condolences to Mark’s family.
