Matthew 25;21 Mabel Gouge Cook, 84, of Unicoi passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the Center On Aging Health in Erwin. She was a native of Bakersville, NC and was a daughter of the late Howard and Dasie McKinney Gouge. Mrs. Cook was a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ Church in Bakersville. Mabel was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Her husband, 3 children and family was her life. Mabel loved her 7 sisters and 1 brother with all her heart. Over the years she had a variety of pets, that she cared for. She loved canning and gardening especially her flowers. Mabel was an awesome cook and made the best biscuits and gravy ever. She will be missed by her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bishop Dallas C. Cook in 2009; two sisters, Helen Garland and Carolyn Sue Gouge; two sons-in-law, Timothy Davis and Darrell Wayne Hall. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Gail Davis and Madge Hall both of Unicoi; a son, Steve Charles Cook of Unicoi; six sisters, Marzella Peterson and husband, Malone of Unicoi, Mima Jean Taylor of Fall Branch, Yvonne McKinney of Johnson City, Wanda Davis and husband, Norman of Elizabethton, Kathy Greene and husband, Harold of Johnson City and Jewel Hubbard and husband, Sammy of Elizabethton; a brother, W.H. Gouge and wife, Grace of Unicoi; four grandchildren, Richard Ray II and wife, Sheila, Kevin Ray, Steven Brian Cook and Stacey Diane Yates and husband, Paul; three great-grandchildren, Adam, Kylie, Elijah and Caroline Church and Brooke Yates; also many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Cook will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, December 18, 2015 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Ed Davis and Pastor Mike Peterson officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memory Park. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
