Lola Mae “Penny” Proffitt, 50, of Fall Branch passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Carroll H. Pickering and Dorothy Ann Ray (Brewer). Penny had retired from Wal-Mart and was a member of the Y Freewill Baptist Church. She was a fun hearted person who loved life. Penny loved her family, friends and her church. She also loved the ocean, taking long walks on the beach and sightseeing for dolphins. Penny knew no strangers, she loved everyone and would talk and laugh for hours. Her favorite phrase was “It will be alright”. My dear sweet Penny, It is now alright.     Survivors include her loving husband of 30 years, David W. Proffitt of the home; three sisters, Kim Collier and husband,  Rick of Flag Pond, Elizabeth Pierson and husband, Charles of Flag Pond and Laurie Tester of Johnson City; two sisters-in-law whom she loved like sisters, Lou Ketron and Sue Proffitt; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Penny will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, November 30, 2017 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Dexter Hoilman officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at Friday, December 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
