Lloyd E. Slagle Sr., 79, of 196 Burton France Road, Johnson City went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a son of the late Nathan and Sarah Harvey Slagle. Mr. Slagle was a carpenter and had worked for several contractors including J&R Construction Co. He attended Buffalo Valley Freewill Baptist Church and had served as church deacon for several churches that he had attended. Mr. Slagle enjoyed his family, farming and all carpentry work. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Lita Church and two brothers-in-law, Ed Church and Edward Ingram. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ethel Murray Slagle; a son, Eddie Slagle and his wife, Terrie; a daughter, Janie Hensley and her husband, Randy all of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Jacob Lee Slagle and Laura Troy of Johnson City and Bucky and Jake Troy of Alabama; a sister, Betty Ingram, Michigan; a brother, David Slagle of Johnson City; also several nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Mr. Slagle will be conducted at 6:00 PM Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the Buffalo Valley Freewill Baptist Church, Unicoi (located off Buckeye Road) with the Rev. Steve Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until the service time. Other times at the residence, 196 Burton France Road, Johnson City. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Wilson, Jesse Grosser, John Moore, Roy Harmon, Paul Davis, Ray Ford, Clyde Murray and Tex Murray. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dana Allen, Judy and Connie, Dr. Michael Ponder and all of their neighbors for their kindness and support. Woodall-Anderson and Dugger Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 108 W. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City is serving the Slagle family.
