Lewis "Buddy" "Hawk" Stevens, 80, 163 Kentland Drive, Johnson City went home to be with the Lord Saturday August 13, 2016 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Chattanooga and was a son of the late Roy Thomas Stevens and Sarah Holder Stevens. Mr. Stevens retired from American Water Heaters and Mor-Flo Industries. He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren. Mr. Stevens enjoyed fishing, hunting, making tin men and hunting artifacts. He co-founded the Tennessee Frontiersmen in 1979 and was an avid reinactor and history buff. Mr. Stevens loved to give lectures on Tennessee history during the Revolutionary War and the French and Indian Wars. He also performed in "The Wataugans" as Chief Oconostpta for 25 years. In the early 1970's he co-founded the Y Freewill Baptist Church in Johnson City where he served as deacon and elder. Mr. Stevens was dedicated to his church and as years passed his health begin to fail he was unable to do the things he loved. So we would sit around and talk about the things that he loved to do. We loved to listen to the stories. These memories we will always cherish. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Chuck, Jim Allen and Jerry Wayne Stevens; three sisters, Patsy Holloway, Katherine Flowers and Ellen Stevens. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Florence Richardson Stevens of the home; three children, Gary Stevens and wife, Patsy of Elizabethton, Eugene Stevens and wife, Karen of Madisonville, TN and Sandra Townsend and husband, Mike of Johnson City; four brothers, Bobby, Chip, Johnny and David Stevens; five sisters, Nancy Brown, Beverly Stevens, Judy Barry, Sharon Stevens and Mary Ann Broyles; five grandchildren, Chris Stevens, Eugene Stevens Jr., James Miller, Justin Miller and Cody Stevens; seven great-grandchildren, Danielle, Sarah, Katherine, Jase, Case and Skyler Stevens and Travis Miller; His step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brandon Martin, Amy and Shealeigh Moses, Chris, Chad and Alicia Townsend and Talon and Lilly Martin; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services for Mr. Stevens will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 16, 2016 in the Roselawn Memory Gardens with Pastor Dennis Walls officiating. The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 PM then proceed to the cemetery for the service. Pallbearers will be Chris, Cody, Gary and Eugene Stevens, James and Justin Miller and Eugene Stevens Jr... In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the wife, to help with funeral expenses.
