Kenneth A. Brackins, 67, of Telford passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a son of the late Samuel Howard Brackins Sr. and Gladys Murr Brackins. Mr. Brackins was disabled and attended Westerly Heights Baptist Church in Johnson City. He was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Tapp Brackins in June 2015. Survivors include a son, James C. Brackins and his wife, Kristy of Telford; a daughter, Lisa Norton Laws and husband, Wesley of Jonesborough; seven brothers and sisters, Viola Toney, Martha Palmer and husband, C.W. all of Johnson City, Maxine Williams of Gray, Dana Brackins and wife, Janice of Johnson City, Dorothy Chatman and husband, Kenneth of South Carolina, Edna Vance and husband, Allen and Sam Brackins all of Johnson City; five grandchildren, Samuel and Sierra Brackins, Kyle Renfro, Eric Hilbert and Laura Norton; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Kenneth will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, September 21, 2015 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Mike Dickenson and Rev. Butch Stout officiating. Interment will follow in McCarty Cemetery, Telford with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military Honors will be accorded by the Boone Dam VFW Honor Guard Detail. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 12:00 noon until the service hour. Other times at the home of his daughter, Lisa, 134 Woodland Drive, Jonesborough. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
