Joyce Bryant Whitehurst

Joyce Bryant Whitehurst of 1911 Sundale Road, Johnson City went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. Mrs. Whitehurst was a daughter of the late Otis and Verna Wilson Bryant. She had worked in Insurance Sales and Management most of her life. Mrs. Whitehurst was a member of the Living Word Church of God in Gray. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Bryant Keith Newman and Chuck Newman; three brothers, Ted, Leroy and Bill Bryant; three sisters, Shirley Bryant Honeycutt, Scharlene Higgins and Betty Berry. Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Whitehurst of the home; a daughter, Tedi Newman of Apex, NC; her mother-in-law, Emily Whitehurst of Jonesborough; a sister, Virginia Borton of Sorrento, FL; a granddaughter, Skylar Tillerson and her husband, Graham of Cary, NC; two grandsons, Chase and Mason Terry of Apex, NC; a special niece, Jan Adkins of Unicoi; also many nieces and nephews. Helping others to show them God's love through lending a hand or listening to their hearts was such a blessing for Joyce. She was surrounded by laughter with her grandkids and when sharing moments of wisdom during mother/daughter visits. Joyce was happiest when she was worshiping the Lord with her husband, spending time in her rose garden and cooking. Above all, Joyce loved the Lord and witnessing for him was where her heart soared. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Living Word Church of God, 146 Cherry Street, Gray, TN with Rev. Steve Guinn and Rev. Eugene Penland officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 noon until the service hour. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens, Johnson City. Active pallbearers will be Graham Tillerson, Chase and Mason Terry, Rick Berry, John Adkins, Larry Williams and Bruce Donlan.
