Joey Jay Smith passed away Saturday, December 24, 2012 in Johnson City. He was a native of Johnson City and had lived in Erwin for several years. He was a son of the late Sonny and Betty Jo Chandley Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Shane Thomas Smith. Survivors include four daughters, Ashley Smith and Heather Smith of the home and Amanda Miller, of Erwin and Tiffany Danforth of Nashville; a sister, Gail Stevens of Fairfax, VA; a brother, Hubert (Butch) Smith of Johnson City; two granddaughters, Cynthia Danforth and Lean Danforth; two nieces, Miranda and Carrie Smith; special cousins, Debbie English, Michael Riddle and Kathy Bailey; special friends, Karen Smith, Mike Sams and Robbie English. Graveside services for Mr. Smith will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, January 13, 2012 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Pastor Erwin Lueker officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Boone Dam VFW Honor Guard assisted by the Army National Guard. Everyone attending this service is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 PM.
