On Wednesday, April 1, 2020, Joe Carpenter passed away at age 66.Joe was a proud father and grandfather. He was a natural entertainer, a force in any room. He was your insurance man, even if he wasn’t your agent. Joe loved to make people laugh and was a good and close friend to many. Along with dear family and friends, Joe’s loves included golf, his Cottage family, his Allstate customers and colleagues, The Andy Griffith Show, and classic country music – especially George Jones and Friday night karaoke.Joe was born on May 31, 1953 in Pasadena, Texas, to parents Russell and Ethel (Blair) Carpenter. As a graduate of East High School in Bluff City, TN, Joe excelled in basketball. He later attended ETSU where he met his longtime friend and Pi Kappa Phi fraternity brother George McQueen.Joe began his career at Sears, followed by many years at Allstate.Joe joins loved ones who have passed before him, including his parents and sister Karen Lou Winrott. Joe is survived by his daughter Charity (Carpenter) Bess and husband Oliver Bess of Mt. Juliet, TN, son Brett Carpenter of Virginia Beach, VA, grandchildren Cayden and Kylie Bess, and several nieces and nephews.Joe’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Tammy Jo Lyons for her care and compassion in checking in on Joe and helping him when he needed it most.Joe’s loved ones will gather to celebrate his life at a later date.
