Jimmie K. Hawkins, 71, Johnson City passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at his residence with his family by his side. He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a son of the late Parrot and Hattie Willis Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was a carpenter by trade. He was a veteran having served his country in the U.S Navy during the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ora Lee Arnold, Ina Whetsell and Helen Franklin and a brother, Lynn Richard Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was a gifted guitarist and played for a number of local churches. Deemed a Master Carpenter after excelling in his carpentry examination, Mr. Hawkins built homes and expressed a gift in creativity with his designs. His sole desire was to live by the scripture he held so dear and show Christ through his actions and the way he lived. Survivors include his loving wife, Frances Marie Laughren Hawkins; his children, Kimberly Ann Hawkins and Christy Marie Taylor; a brother, Randy Hawkins; a sister, Lois Williams; five grandchildren, Justin Sells and Emily, Daniel Yontz, Matthew Hall, Kaytlin Adams and Amber Russell; a great-granddaughter, Anna Yontz; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Hawkins will be conducted at 6:30 PM Thursday, July 14, 2022 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Mr. Dean Laughren officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery at 2:00 PM Monday, July 18, 2022. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends.
