Jerry Lee Thornton, 72, of Johnson City passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a son of the late Anderson and Mary Maupin Thornton. Mr. Thornton attended New Life Christian Fellowship Church in Jonesborough and was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Navy.  He had worked for Diamond Cab and W.W. Cab Company for over 30 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce and Andy Thornton.Survivors include three sons, Jerry Crum of Johnson City, Johnny Thornton and wife, Beverly of Jonesborough and Gavin Hill of Fall Branch; a brother, Eddie Thornton and wife, Sandra of Beckley, WV; a sister, Diane Love and husband, James of Jonesborough; five grandchildren, Shantelle Smith, Felicia Holder, Jonathan Thornton, Jacob Thornton and Karissa Thornton; three great-grandchildren, Kendell Lady, Rylee Holder and Natalie Holder; also several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City Wednesday from 11:30 to 12:30 PM. Graveside services with Military Honors will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 27, 2018 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Rev. Palmer Jones and the Carter County Honor Guard officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.favorite_border Donations Pledges

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY I AM SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. I KNOW THE PAIN. JERRY WAS A GOOD MAN AND A HARD WORKER. HE WOULD ALWAYS TALK TO ME WHEN HE CAME TO SEE PAUL. I PRAY FOR GOD TO GIVE YOU PEACE AND COMFORT WITH OUT HIM I DON'T THINK WE COULD BEAR THE PAIN. GOD BLESS
