James W. Hatley, 93, 255 Rock House Road, Johnson City passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in the Christian Care Center of Johnson City. He was a native of Butler but had lived in Johnson City most of his life. Mr. Hatley was a son of the late Elza and Ida Pilkington Hatley. He retired from Mason-Dixon Trucking and attended the Johnson City Baptist Temple. Mr. Hatley was a U.S. Navy veteran having served his country during World War II. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lynn McNeil Hatley in 2009; two sons, Ronnie and Jimmy Hatley; a brother, Charles Hatley and a sister, Betty James. Survivors include five daughters, Sue E. Scott and husband, John of Hamilton, NC, Margie Fields of Greeneville, Debbie Fields. Becky Woods and husband, Sam and Jamie Rhoten all of Johnson City. a daughter-in-law, Janice Hatley of Johnson City; twelve grandchildren, Randy Hott, Kevin Fields, Kelly Christy, Emily Sherfey, Robert and Jeremy Hatley, Amy Fields, Eric and Wendy Woods, Scott Rhoten, Nikki and Mitch Hatley; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; also several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Hatley will be conducted at 4:00 PM Sunday, July 6, 2014 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with the Rev. Mike Garland officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, July 7, 2014 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Everyone attending this service is asked to meet at the funeral home by 11:00 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
