He loved others like Christ loved us James "Jim" Harrison Hall, 85, passed away Monday, August 31, 2015 at John M. Reed Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. His devoted wife, Glenda was by his side. Jim grew up in Limestone but moved to Johnson City when he was young. Following the death of his father he started working at the age of 12. Jim held many jobs but was most known to be "The Milkman" for Foremost Dairies and Pet Dairies for over 30 years. He served as Steward for Teamster Local Union #549, Blountville, TN. Jim also worked after retirement for Best Western and Harris-Tarkett in maintenance and security. He was known for his sense of humor, gift of gab and a fondness for the ladies. Jim was a hard worker and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. He was a wonderful husband and father and a doting grandfather. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, David Leonard Hall and Amanda Anderson Stout; his step-father, Sherman Stout; siblings, Patsy Jane West, Dorthea Hall and Billy Jack Hall; a son, Paul Devault; his children's mother, Peggy Hall. Survivors include his faithful wife, Glenda Fortner Hall; a son, J.D. Loveland of California; daughters, Kathy Lee and husband, Don of Kingsport and Joy Thacker of Greeneville; step-children, Linda Carrera of Johnson City, Teresa Davis and husband, Steven of South Carolina and Justin Devault of Virginia; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; a special great-grandson, Connor Devault; a brother, Eugene "Pete" Hall and his wife, Marie of Texas; a brother-in-law, Wild Bill West of Florida; a sister-in-law, Shirley Hall of Texas; his companion and friend for 13 years, Scruffy; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Jim will be conducted at 6:00 PM Thursday, September 3, 2015 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Ms. Charlene Elliott officiating. Special music will be provided by Will Taylor. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Other times at the home of a step-daughter, 201 Hamilton Street, Johnson City; Graveside services will be held Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. For those attending you are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
