James E. Barnes, age 90, of Jonesborough passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019 following a lengthy illness in Cocoa, Florida at the home of his daughter. He was a native of Greene County and was a son of the late Roy and Martha Swiney Barnes. Mr. Barnes faithfully attended Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church before moving to Florida for health reasons. He truly loved his church family. Mr. Barnes was a retired mechanic with the City of Johnson City. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Rebecca Jones Barnes in 2012; a brother, Monroe Barnes and two sisters, Ethel Murray and Helen Jackson.Survivors include his two daughters, Trena Taylor and husband, Douglas of Cocoa, Florida and Joan Coffey and husband, Larry of Irmo, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Angela Colvin and husband, Kenn, Melissa Dillow and husband, Troy, Heather Hiegi and husband, Eric and Daniel Coffey and wife, Lauren; great-grandchildren, Taylor Harkleroad and wife, Megan, Travis, Hunter and Lila Hiegi; great-great-grandchild, Aeson Harkleroad; also several nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 21, 2019 in the Rheatown Cemetery, Greene County with Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff officiating. For those attending this service you are ask to meet at the cemetery. Trina, Joan and family. I am so sorry for the loss of your father James. I have so many memories of him and your mom Becky which we used to call her (Pepsi). You had great parents, So loving and they loved the Lord so we have the promise to see them again. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
