Helen L. Mitchell Johnson, 84, 1324 Baldridge Drive, Johnson City passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Shep and Fannie Gobble Mitchell. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Johnson City where she served as coordinator of the Card Ministry and the Food Committee. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Johnson in 1978; two sons, Ronnie and Johnny Johnson; two sisters, Madeline Mitchell and Hester White; also two brothers, Chalmer and Junior Mitchell. Survivors include two daughters, Lola Willens and her husband, Tom and Jane Chatman and her husband, Jim all of Johnson City; a son, Mike Johnson and Brenda of Elizabethton; a sister, Lena Black, Johnson City; seven grandchildren, Shannon Surber and husband, Matt, Ashley Johnson and husband, Jimi, Chad Johnson and wife, Jenny, William Thacker, Jerry Johnson and wife, Kim, Jeff Johnson and wife, Stacy and Mike Chatman; eight great-grandchildren; special great-grandsons and light of her life, Malachi Surber and Jake Murphy; a special nephew, Gary Mitchell and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services for Mrs. Johnson will be conducted at 3:30 PM Friday, December 16, 2011 in the Roselawn Memory Gardens with her son-in-law, Rev. Jim Chatman officiating. Pallbearers will be Don Little, Matt Surber, William Thacker, M at Appalachian FunerJerry Johnson, Gary Mitchell and Tom Willens. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Chatman and Jeff Johnson. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City then proceed to the cemetery for the service.. Woodall-Anderson and Dugger Funeral Home, 108 W.
