Mrs. Helen Baskin, of Johnson City passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 in the Lakebridge Health Care Center. She was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late Fred and Glada Bailey Casey. Mrs. Baskin was retired from the V.A. Medical Center Hospital where she had worked in nursing. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Johnson City. Mrs. Baskin enjoyed quilting, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Baskin Sr. in 1979; two daughters, Teresa Halbedel and Kathy Diane Baskin; two brothers, Maynard and James Casey; also a great-granddaughter. Survivors include a son, Kenneth E. Baskin Jr. and his wife, Paula of Johnson City; four grandchildren, David Ricker and Jason Ricker both of Boone, NC, Joe Halbedel and wife, Christy of Charlotte, NC and Casey Baskin of Johnson City; seven great-grandchildren, Blake, Brittany, Brett, Ben and Sydney Ricker, Savannah Halbedel and Kaitlyn Halbedel; a nephew, Robert Casey and wife, Buffy of Johnson City; also other nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Baskin will be conducted at 2:30 PM Thursday, April 2, 2015 in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 201 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Steven L. Harmon officiating. Interment will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 PM until the service hour. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
