Grady Carpenter

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing. Mr. Grady Carpenter, 93, Faith Circle, Johnson City passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013 in the Lakebridge Health Care Center. He was a native of Cleveland County, NC but had lived in Johnson City most of his life. Mr. Carpenter was a son of the late James and Vertie Pruett Carpenter. He was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Johnson City. Mr. Carpenter had worked in the automobile service industry for most of his life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served his country during World War ll. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pauline Tittle Carpenter in 1999; five brothers, Roy, Ralph, Wayne, Yates and Carl Carpenter. Survivors include his two sons, Butch Carpenter and his wife, Brenda of Johnson City and Mike Carpenter and his wife, Diane of Sherrills Ford, NC; four grandchildren, Mike Carpenter Jr., Kim Fowler, Kristy Anderson and Eric Onks; five great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Annie Ruth Carpenter; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Carpenter will be conducted at 7:00 PM Sunday, July 14, 2013 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with the Rev. Harold Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 15, 2013 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends. Everyone attending this service is asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
