Glenn R. Smith, 94, of Johnson City passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016 in the Nova Health Care and Rehab of Weber City, Virginia. He was a native of Wise County, Virginia and was a son of the late Lloyd and Hannah Smith. Mr. Smith was a charter member of the Mountain View Baptist Church of Johnson City. He was retired from East Tennessee State University where he worked in procurement in the Library. During his lifetime he had worked for Monroe Calculator Co. in Bristol, VA, The Railroad in Andover, VA, He was the personnel manager for Leon-Ferenbach Inc, and partnered with the ADAB Gifts of Johnson City. Mr. Smith was "very much a people person having never met a stranger and he love to tell jokes, always a happy man." He loved the Lord and lived his life for God and his family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Kessee Smith; his second wife, Adele Pierce Smith; two daughters, Janice Campbell and Cecelia Baumgardner; two sisters, Lorene and Nadine; also a brother, Lloyd E. Smith Jr. Survivors include a son, Glenn R. Smith Jr. and his wife, Charlotte of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Kim Setzer and husband, Jeff of Morristown, Lisa Franklin and husband, Steve of Johnson City, Chris Baumgardner and Joyce Baumgardner both of Jacksonville, FL, Daryl Glenn Smith of Kingsport and Joel Matthew Smith and wife, Ashley of Blountville; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special friends, Kenneth Keith and wife, Betty of Bristol, TN. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 30, 2016 in the Washington County Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor James Cambron officiating. The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City Saturday from 12:00 to 1:30 PM then proceed to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Nova Health Care Center of Weber City, especially Paul Greene for the wonderful care and compassion they provided Mr. Smith and his family during his stay there.
