Glenda Rhea Fortner

Glenda Rhea Fortner, 73, died Tuesday, June 16, 2020 following a lengthy illness. Glenda was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Marvin Kenneth and Theola Mable Kinley Begley. Glenda was a 1964 Graduate of Boones Creek High School. She worked at Tri-Cities Plasma Center for nearly twenty years, working in several capacities, including Red Blood Cell Coordinator. Glenda was a Baptist. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. Glenda is survived by her husband, Bill Fortner; three children, Lori Garland and husband Tony, Johnson City, Tina Bennett and husband Freddie, Unicoi, Travis Fortner and wife April Hodge, Stoney Creek; two brothers, Kenny Begley, Blountville, George Matthews and wife Pauline, South Shields, England; three sisters, Nancy Hawks, Elizabethton, Connie Meader and husband Clifford, Jonesborough, Shirley Evans, Pennington Gap, VA; seven grandchildren, Phillip Garland, Stella Garland, Kasey Bennett, Seth Bennett, Christian Mathes, Haven Osborne and Toni Moffitt; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Osborne and Klarissa Revelee; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Carmina Garcia & staff, the late Dr. Marion Bertotti and her nurse Carolyn, and the staff of Avalon Hospice, for their excellent care during Glenda’s illness. The graveside funeral service will be held Friday, June 19, 2020, at 10:00 A.M., in the Mountain Home National Cemetery Annex, with Rev. Freddie Bennett, officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those planning to attend are requested to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 and are REQUIRED to wear a protective mask.
