G. Richard Brummett, 69, 142 Clearview Street, Gray went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Kingsport and was a son of the late Cecil and Pauline Elliott Brummett. Mr. Brummett had worked for the Sullivan County Schools for 31 years, most of that time was spent as a 6th grade teacher for Ketron Middle School. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran having served his country during the Vietnam War. Mr. Brummett loved his family and enjoyed his grandchildren very much. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a step-son, Samuel Henley. Survivors include his loving wife, Margaret Bond Brummett; a daughter, Megan Brummett of Gray; a step-daughter, Dawn DeLoach and husband, Bryan of Gray; a step-son, Eric Henley and wife, Lisa of Gray; eight grandchildren, Audrie Brummett, Cynthia, Seth and Tara Shea Henley, Harleigh, Kendal, Gage and Lola DeLoach; a sister, Evelyn Burrell and husband, Jerry of Kingsport; two brothers, Charles R. Brummett and wife, Faye of Myrtle Beach, SC and Larry D. Brummett of Church Hill, TN; a close family friend, Shamblin Letterman; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Brummett will be conducted at 7:00 PM Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Sherrel Nave officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 27, 2014 in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Military Honors will be accorded by the Boone Dam VFW Honor Guard Detail. Pallbearers will be Jerry and James Burrell, Bryan DeLoach, Bo Brummett, Shamblin Letterman and Eric Henley. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers for those who prefer you may make memorial donations to the Oak Grove Baptist Church, 396 Oak Grove Road, Johnson City, TN 37615. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of the 2900 unit of the ICU, Johnson City Medical Center for the wonderful compassion and care they provided.
