Fred Kenneth Higgins Sr., 69, Jonesborough passed away Friday, October 5, 2018 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a son of the late Fred and Edna Bryant Higgins. Mr. Higgins was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country during the Vietnam War. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Higgins enjoyed going fishing and hunting. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Milhorn and Walter Higgins; also two sisters, Darlene Elrod and Sue Greer. Survivors include his loving wife, Kimberly Elrod Higgins; his four children, Fred Kenneth Higgins Jr, Kelly Cross, David O. Warren Jr. all of Johnson City and Walter Hartsell Higgins of Jonesborough; five grandchildren, Ashley Blevins, Kenneth Higgins, David Rouse Jr., Georgia Williams and Megan Beloat; three great-grandchildren, Quinton Blevins, Juniper Higgins and Arianna Blevins; a special niece, Sherry Souder of Jonesborough; also several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 AM Thursday. Graveside services with Military Honors will follow in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Fred and I grew up together through our teenage years in Johnson City. We had lots of friends around the Maple Street area. We kinda lost touch as life leads us in different directions but always thought about Fred and fun times growing up. He was a great friend!
