Elsie Marie Mahaffey, 76, of Limestone passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 in the Erwin Health Care Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a daughter of the late Sylvester and Hazel Trivette Hicks. She had worked for Leon-Ferenbach and was a homemaker. Mrs. Mahaffey was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Johnson; three brothers, Roger (Junior) Hicks, Harold Hicks and Shelby Hicks. Survivors include her husband, James Roy Mahaffey; two sons, Jason Mahaffey and Michelle Hinkle Mahaffey of Greene County and Michael Mahaffey and wife, Kimberly of Kingsport; five grandchildren, J.J. Mahaffey, Sevanna Mahaffey, Mark Tipton, Matthew Tipton and Ashley Tipton; two great-grandchildren, Meliea Tipton and Harmony Rose Tipton; two sisters, Ruby Keplinger and husband, Robert of Telford and Nora Wright and husband, Johnny of Washington County; a sister-in-law, Brenda Hicks of Washington County. Several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Mahaffey will be conducted at 7:00 PM Monday, April 3, 2017 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Deaton officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in the Urbana Cemetery, Limestone. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery.
