Edith Velva Mitchell

Edith Velva Mitchell, 93, 820 Hamilton Street, Johnson City passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Appalachian Christian Village. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Ed-Mona Laws Mitchell. Ms. Mitchell was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County. She was of the Holiness faith and a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Thelma Mitchell Mathes, a grandson, William James Wines II, two great-granddaughters, Linda Kay Adkins and Amber Lashea Perkins. Survivors include a daughter, Zona Kay Mitchell Neal and her fiance, Captain John Smith of Johnson City; five granddaughters, Nancy Mitchell and fiance, David Peterson, Christine Mitchell Garland and husband, Buddy Garland, Shannon Allgood and husband, Joseph, Sharon Miller and fiance, Tim (Blue Eyes) Parlier and Alice Perkins and husband, Jason (Bear); a grandson, Cecil Wayne Penley Jr.; four great-granddaughters, Brittany Branch and Daniel, Tiffany Adkins, Cheyenne Adkins and Catherine Garland; six great-grandsons, Anthony Stewart, Justin and Cody Perkins, Christopher Adkins, Buddy Garland Jr. and Zachary Oliver; Three great-great-great-grandsons, Braylan Horton, Brayden Hardin and Eric Branch; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Ms. Mitchell will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 15, 2014 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor William Lunsford officiating. Internment will follow in the Philadelphia Cemetery in Limestone.
