Douglas Wayne West, 58, of Watauga passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at his residence. He was a native of Washington County and was a son of the late Bernie and Martha Ferguson West. Mr. West was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, David West. Survivors include two sisters, Linda Carden and Janette Hoilman and husband, Rev. Glen Hoilman all of Watauga; two brothers, Donald West and wife, Kathy of Johnson City and Harlan West of Watauga; special cousins, Keith, Sharon and Jeff Dugger; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services for Douglas will be conducted at 7:00 PM Sunday, January 14, 2018 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Jim Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 15, 2018 in the Mosely Cemetery, Limestone Cove in Unicoi County. Pallbearers will be Dexter and Gary Hoilman, Donnie, B.J. and Jonah Bare, Devin Nelson and Justin Brown. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery Monday by 10:50 AM.. We are so very sorry for your loss! Feelings of despair can be overwhelming at this time. We pray that “the Father of tender mercies, and the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4) will give you peace of mind and comfort in your hearts. Acts 24:15 says that “there is going to be a resurrection” and Job 14:14, 15 shows that God has a longing to resurrect his friends! We are so grateful that our loving God looks forward, as much as we do, to reuniting us with our loved ones.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of my friend Doug. Doug and I were childhood friends who did adventurous things as young boys do. We played in creeks, lakes, rode bicycles, ran up and down the railroad tracks. We had a lot of adventures! He was one of my true childhood best friends. A part of my history is now gone. Rest in peace my friend. My deepest thoughts to the family, I knew you all very well years ago. Love, Mickey G.
