Doris Bowery Hungate, 82, of Johnson City passed away Friday, February 6, 2015 at her residence. She was a native of Sullivan County and was the daughter of the late Frank and Sara Snapp Bowery. Doris was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church and also attended Otterbein United Methodist Church. She loved playing bridge and ping-pong with her friends at the Senior Center. Doris enjoyed walking and working in her yard and flowers. She also enjoyed reading and attending classes at ETSU where she enrolled at age 75 to obtain her degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Hungate Lady; a brother, Carl F. Bowery; two sisters-in-law, Vileta Bowery and Lois Bowery; also two nephews, Allen "Butch" Bowery and Michael Bowery. Survivors include her son, Robert Hungate Jr. of Johnson City; her beloved "favorite" grandson, Evan Hungate of New York; three brothers, Ed Bowery, Ronnie "R.L" Bowery and wife, Mary Ruth and Willard Bowery and his wife Judy all of Kingsport. Several nieces and nephews. Also her much loved dog. "Edgar Allen Poe". A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 PM Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in the chapel of Woodall-Anderson and Dugger Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Deaton officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service hour. The family would like to give special thanks to Mountain States Hospice Group and to her neighbors, Tony, Susan and Brian for love and care they provided.
