David “Mitchell” Reed, 74, Johnson City passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a lifetime native of Washington County and was a son of the late Virgil and Carrie Adams Reed. Mr. Reed owned and operated Reed’s Home Improvements for many years. He had sang gospel music with his family in many area churches and had also pastored several churches. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Orthy Ison; two brothers, Lester “Bud” Reed and Willie Reed. Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Pope Reed; five children, Lonnie Reed, David Reed Jr. both of Johnson City, Stephanie Owens and husband, John of Elizabethton; Patricia Hall of Elizabethton and Carl Whitson of Johnson City; a brother, Phil Reed and wife, Grace; half-brother, Leon; a half-sister, Barbara; six grandchildren, Ashley Scott, Nakeisha Heney, Robert Mitchell Jr., Justin Mitchell, Tera Mitchell and David Reed III; four great-grandchildren, Elijah Ratledge, Makenzie White, Mason White and Leina Mitchell Franklin; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Reed will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, November 2, 2017 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Hobart Bradshaw officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday in McCarty Methodist Church Cemetery, Jonesborough. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends. Mitch was one of a kind and a wonderful person. we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Mitch is resting peacefully now in the arms of jesus!
