Pastor David F. Nunley, 72, Johnson City passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Nunley was a native and resident of Johnson City and was a son of the late William Jefferson and Betty Ann Rose Nunley. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who had served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Mr. Nunley also worked with his twin brother, Daniel as private building contactors under Nunley Construction Company. David was a true man of God and pastor of the Gospel Light House Church of Johnson City. Since becoming a Christian at an early age, he lived a life above reproach. His greatest enjoyment was being a pastor and spending time with his granddaughter, Anna. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Wayne Nunley. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patricia "Pat" Smith Nunley. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary February 4, 2015; a daughter, Lisa Faye Nunley of Johnson City; a son, Jeffery David Nunley of Johnson City; a brother, Daniel James Nunley and his wife, Linda of Johnson City; a sister, Mary Lee Barr and husband, Jerry; also many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law. Funeral services for Mr. Nunley will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, January 1, 2015 in the Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ, 2733 Elizabethton Highway, Elizabethton with Pastor Donny Reagan and Rev. Bill Younce officiating. Music will be under the direction of Louie Blevins. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until the service hour and other times at the residence. Graveside services will be held at 10:45 AM Friday, January 2, 2015 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy. Active pallbearers will be Jason and Tim Younce, Tim Draper, Jonathan Boone, Jacob Tipton, Billy Mullins, Steven Nunley and Joshua Rankin. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Smith, Allen Tipton, Michael Boone, Donnie, Phillip and Andrew White, Daniel Rankin, Harold Nunley and David Barr. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City by 10:30 to go in procession to the cemetery.
