Darrell Dean Greene Sr. 71,Johnson City passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the residence of his niece. He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a son of the late Virgil and Hassie Miller Greene. Mr. Greene had worked for Burlington Industries and had been an over the road truck driver for many years. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Greene loved his family and was a Papaw to all he met. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. J.D. Greene and three sisters, Cody "Irene" Dawson, Barbara Jean Raney and Juanita Buck. Survivors include five children, Brenda Byrum and husband, Michael, Jennifer Killion and husband, Brad all of Elizabethton, Rebecca Queen and husband, Van of Maryville, TN, Angela Goodman and Adam Bennett of Elizabethton and Darrell "Buddy" Greene Jr. and wife, Sandra of Elizabethton; a brother, Shelby "Red" Greene and wife, Mary of Erwin; thirteen grandchildren, Roger Bryant II, Joseph Byrum, Jackson Killion, Zachary Greene, Austin Greene, Jordan Killion, Sarah Byrum, Brianna Greene, Branden Bennett, Curtis Greene, Alexis Bennett, Kaden Bennett, Caleb Queen and Colton Killion; many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Judy Lyons of Johnson City. A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Greene will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday, March 10, 2017 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Dennis Wilson and Rev. Donnie Harris officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 11, 2017 in the Cherokee Independent Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph Byrum, Jackson, Killion, Austin Greene, Anthony Musick, Jason Brewer, Brandon Bennett, Anthony Kerr, Jacob Lyons and Tony Gregg. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the funeral home by 9:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
