Clonard W. Palmer, 84, Johnson City passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 in the Franklin Woods Community Hospital. He was a native of Avery County, North Carolina and was a son of the late Donnie Abel Palmer and Mary Smith Palmer. Mr. Palmer was a member of Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church. He had retired from Yellow Freight Company where he worked as a mechanic. Mr. Palmer was a U.S. Navy veteran. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Harold Palmer and a niece, Kathy Jo Thatcher. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Martha Brackins Palmer; two sons, Wesley Allen Palmer and wife, Kim of Gray and Michael Howard Palmer of Johnson City; a sister, Fran Deason of Johnson City; also several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City. Graveside services for Mr. Palmer will be conducted at 2:30 PM Friday, March 23, 2018 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Pastor Kenneth Grindstaff officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends.
