Christina June Whaley King, 87, of Johnson City passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Jewell Ridge, Virginia but had lived in Washington County most of her life. Mrs. King was a daughter of the late Paul Whaley Sr. and Lou Elswick Whaley. She was a retiree of United Telephone Company where she had 37 years of service as a long distance operator, directory assistance operator, long distance supervisor and group chief operator. Mrs. King was a member of the Harrison Christian Church where she served on the mission committee; she also attended the Thursday morning bible study. She was a charter member of the Telephone Pioneer Association, where she served as secretary for many years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur M. King in 2000; three brothers, Freddie Lee Whaley, who died in infancy, Paul Whaley Jr. and Carlos C. Whaley. Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Jo Lilley and Christina Rochelle Lilley both of Johnson City; two sisters, Geneva Whaley and Lena Pearl Ensor; two brothers, Will David Whaley and Lewis D. Whaley; several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Graveside services for Mrs. King will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 24, 2016 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park with Mr. Brian Powell officiating. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.
