Cecil D. Greene, 74, 320 Hamilton Street, Johnson City passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side. He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County and was a son of the late Enoch and Mary Kimery Greene. Mr. Greene had worked in management for over 25 years for Wright's Supermarkets and later with White's Foods. He attended Grace Fellowship Church in Johnson City. Mr. Greene was an avid New York Yankees fan for many years. He also enjoyed country and gospel music, watching Andy Griffith reruns and all westerns and especially enjoyed his coffee. Mr. Greene had a heart of gold and enjoyed helping his neighbors or anyone that needed help. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Sheets Greene of 43 years; three daughters, Mary Greene Hopcroft and husband, Bill of Johnson City, Beckie Greene Groves and her fiance, Casey Honeycutt both of Asheville and Melinda Greene Rankin and husband, Timothy of Boone, NC; a sister, Rose Yarbor of Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren, William, Tim and Shannon Fox, of Asheville, Crystal and Cody Cooley of Anthony, FL and Isabella Parker of Ocala, FL; two sisters-in-law, June Henson of Roan Mountain and Nadine Sheets of Johnson City; a brother-in-law, Donald Sheets of Coalwood, WV; special nephew, Jimmy Ricker; a special niece, Angie Aiken and a special friend, Sandy Tolley; also many nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Greene will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, August 8, 2013 in the Chapel of Woodall-Anderson and Dugger Funeral Home with the Rev. J.C. Sheets and Rev. Randy English officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 9, 2013 in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Johnson City. Pallbearers will be Bill Hopcroft, Mike Johns, Timothy, William and Billy Knight and Wayne Connaughton. Honorary pallbearers will be Wesley Henson, Brian Pierce and the staff of Woodall-Anderson and Dugger Funeral Home. Everyone attending this service is asked to meet at the funeral home Friday by 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4825 Trousdale Drive, Ste 220, Nashville, TN 37220. The family would like to give special thanks to the Mountain States Hospice Group for the wonderful care they provided.
