Carolyn Virginia Stinnett Gilliam Smith, 73, of Johnson City went home to be with the Lord and her husband, Ernest Sunday, February 19, 2017 in the Erwin Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. She was a lifelong native of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Raymond and Linda Park Stinnett. Carolyn was a sweet, kind hearted forgiving soul who loved her large family, especially her many nieces and nephews. She really loved her dog, Ernie. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Gilliam and her second husband, Woodrow Smith; two brothers, Gene Stinnett and Kenneth Stinnett; two sisters, Kathleen McKinney and Louise France. Survivors include two brothers, Charles Stinnett and wife, Darlene and David Stinnett all of Johnson City; three sisters, Lucille Goodman of Johnson City, Pansy Stewart and husband, John of Soddy Daisy and Gail Sims and husband, Roger of Gray; two sisters-in-law, Janice and Natalie Stinnett; Also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be conducted at 7:00 PM February 22, 2017 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Alan Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, February 23, 2017 in the Boones Creek Christian Church Cemetery. Her nephews, nieces and brothers-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Those who wish to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 PM to travel together to the cemetery. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the employees of Erwin Health Care Center for their excellent and loving care of Carolyn.
